Oldest Currency in use. . ?

I was told the oldest form of currency in use is the "Quan". Can anyone show me a link or help me out here with information?

I think they're :cen:ing it up and refering to the Chinese Yuan which is commonly called "kwai". But according to sources I found on the net, pounds sterling is the oldest currency still in use. The Chinese did have a very ancient currency but it is no longer in use only the name remains.

Hmm..I am not sure. It is a MSgt and he is generally correct 99.9% of the time. Especially when he says he has read it in a book. My search continues.
