NVA Perspective

Whispering Death

Does anyone know of any good books written from the NVA or VietCong point of view? I'd be especially interested in reading something from the Jr. leaders because I'm quite interested in trying to figure out the mindset of the soldiers when they where being led by their generals to be slaughtered by what ended up in the millions by U.S. forces.

NVA perspective

Yes,
Lex McAullay who authored the Battle Of Long Tan, went back to Vietnam to re write his book from the NVA perspective.
Brilliant read and some interesting conclusions come out of it. Especially when compared to his origional work.

Recommended Reading: Works by Bao Ninh, the author of The Sorrow of War. He tells of being drafted into the North Vietnamese Army in 1968 and fighting for nearly seven years. His unit lost over 80% of its men to battle deaths, desertion and sickness. In all those years, he never once fought against the Americans. His war was strictly a Vietnamese affair.

Also a very good movie based on a book called the "Golden Triangle" tells the story from both sides and then the two characters stories intersect when one is captured by the other. It put a very human face on the North Vietnamese side of the conflict.
