Nuclear bomb lost in 50s never found

Interesting story here, fishermen may come up with an even more incredulous story than they are used to, "it was that big!" :)

The bomb was dropped from a B47 after a mid air collision in the late 50s. Evidently, it is still on the sea bed somewhere off the coast of Savannah, where fishermen cast their nets! Since the bomb lacks the plutonium trigger it is assumed to be safe from detonation.

"The tactical doctrine for Strategic Air Command gave me the authority to get rid of it (the bomb) for the safety of the crew - that was the number one priority," Colonel Richardson said.

Strange, I would have expected the civilians would have priority, although ditching it in the sea was probably the safest option for everyone in this case.

Yeah, it was a hard decision but they made the right one and fortunately it turned out well for everyone so far.
