Do you have proof? From all the blog's, info sites and forums I've been on, I've only heard of a single incident on an M1 being penetrated.

Are you kidding me?

The incident described in the Abrams PDF happened on April 2, 2003 in the initial invasion of Iraq. The PDF describes the Abrams performence during the invasion

Damien just posted this article (http://www.armytimes.com/story.php?f=1-292236-2336437.php) a page back dated Aug 28 about the Abrams being penetrated. They describe 2 totally different incidents. This happened after the PDF report was published.

I have also heard of other incidences of penetration. A kid firing an RPG straight down onto the glacis. I cant confirm these though.

And notice the name, "Army Times" if they say two tanks were knocked out by enemy fire you can get that (at least) that many have been destroyed.

Also, check the article's date, Oct 27, 2003. There have been many more Abrams burnt out since then. 80 tanks have been damaged badly enough to warrent total repair. http://www.afvnews.ca/cgi-bin/web-bbs/webbbs_config.pl/noframes/read/62043

Remember, this is over TWO years of operations. Its not bad at all.

Here is a biased article by Vasiliy Fofanov on the performence of the M1 in Iraq.

The first of the tanks in action Big Willie, it got is name from the size of the guns it carried. There was also a Little Willie that just carried a mass of machine guns.

Also there are a number of these tanks in the National Tank museum at Bovington in Dorset and all the Tanks there are kept in running order.

Think thats the tank (probably not the actual tank) that was in Indiana Jones wasnt it? thought it looked familiar. The parts would most likely have to be custom made as theres so few examples left that it wouldnt be economical to have a large production run.

ok, Thanks! Any idea if any company would produce some of these tanks for replication wars or just loan from the museum?

Discovery had x2 shows that reated top 10 tanks

Yes, I was wondering where the Tiger was. Strange that they would omit that.

In the earlier show I only remember the top 3, they are as follows:

1) T-34
2) M1-Abrams
3) Tiger-1

M1 vs 1IA1

then what about the M1A2?

I say it should be mentioned as well dont you think?

it should be better than the M1A1 right?

That would be implied, but the point was they mentioned the Abrams. To be correct they likely mentioned the one that was used in Desert Storm which saw the most combat, verses the one with the upgraded armor.
