I would say that what Damien describes is a laser pointer. A laser printer is a printer that makes text/images on a paper with carbon powder mixed with iron powder, laser (LEDs is sometimes used) and a light-sensitive magnetic drum. I will not further explain how it works since it is a quite complicated operation to explain.
