Not my Flag!!!!!

New York is a rather peculiar place. Then again so is Washington DC... but in a different way. Each city has its own culture. But New York can get flat our weird.

Idiot elitist arrogant New Yorkers don't get it and will keep being on the wrong side of everything because they think everyone but them lives in, as you put it, the 'hinterland'. New Yorkers want to see themselves as so smart and cultured and intelligent, they buy whatever is shoved down their throats that will boost their ego, including politics. Believe it or not, people outside of New York tend to live rather normal lives, very very few americans live on farms or small towns.

Here in Dallas, I can't think of one person who has ever said, "Man, if only our city was more like New York, it's just so great there." And quite honestly, I don't know of anywhere but in the Northeast where people actually like New York, most people think of it as the Mecca of everything that is wrong with America.

as a particular political commentator here in NZ put it, people in the major urban centers on the coasts of the US have more contact with foriegners, do more business with them and are definatly more aware of the outside worlds opinion of the current administration. also levels of education are higher in these more urban areas, where for those on the rural zones and middle america, george bush personifies "american values" broad strokes of backwards thinking to play on the fears of more fundamentalist christians.]

no sir....i don't like it

i have visited New York on many occasions and i personally think it sucks, the taxi drivers are crazy (i have almost been run over several times by them) and i cant walk down the street with out hobos trying to steal my wallet (even though its on a chain  ) and being offered bootleg videos. Yea, thats the great all mighty New York city, great place
give me Boston, Massachusetts or Austin, Texas any day!

Amazing how people of supposedly liberal thinking who promote the concepts of fairness and equality, decry racism and bigotry can turn around and do just the opposite when it suits them.

NZ, again you said with regards to foreign contact. The election was not won for Bush overseas. It was won for him at home. Get that straight. Again, if this election was PURELY about Iraq, Bush would have lost (says the majority of the polls out there).
Obviously you didn't read or chose to ignore what I wrote.
P.s. it wasn't fundamentalist Christianity under attack. It was Christianity as a whole that was under attack. They couldn't even call a Christmas Tree a Christmass Tree for heaven's sake.

I think like this and I am living in a country with 9 million citizens and that is not much people. Well alot of things are as F.U.B.A.R as it seems to be in NYC and D.C I think. When I read I get the impression that NYC or D.C both have a common link. They have in generall more education then the countryside and they are doing more buisness with the outside world, and that this makes these ppl more aware of the outside worlds opinion. Well they are for sure more aware about the outside worlds opinion, and they are also having in generall more education then ppl from the countryside. But that dont make them immune against been pulled in their legs thats for sure.

That dont make them any more special then the ppl living on the countryside, because I have a feeling that ppl that in general are living of the earth get another reality awarness then ppl that only have read the same books and only fill their hearts with concrete and having a hard time to see the differance between a Mule and a Donkey. They may have alot of knowledge about what ppl in other countrys may feel or think about U.S. Well I know that NYC is almost as Stockholm over here, there are alot of we and them feelings. There are alot of we know everything when I`m visiting that city. And they are more open minded when it comes to Gay marridge and such things, you dont find a BDSM club or a Gay club where I live.

They would be shoot I think, or worse. I have a gut feeling that city fokes are probably more cultured then I am maybe. But I dont have a moral decomposition problem to fight with. City fokes are maby more aware of what other countrys may think in the big-citys. But do you see any primeminister or president talking from the heart of their countrys? The countryside where maybe as much as 60% of their entire populations still are living? I love democray and the freedom of speach, but when you look at the whole picture - I dont find city ppl to be the one that rules what the rest of that country are thinking. They are just the ones that are shown in the cameras if you ask me.

And if someone told me that cityfokes was more aware of what is going on in my country? I would laugh because they only know what is on their street or in their university and it is a hard thing to get the whole picture if you are looking at the world with tunnelvision. I believe that the countryside ppl are the ones that always will be the ones that have to save the naive city ppl when the fat-lady-sings. Over here city ppl are sore feet ppl that can be good in business connections but money is not at all the reality but an escape from reality when all looks pink and elegant.

Countryside power indeed Doc S. :rambo:

City slickers being well versed in the world is only a half truth. You'll find plenty ... at least I found plenty who don't know one place from another. In DC I obviously met plenty who didn't know the difference between North and South Korea... didn't know where these countries were and when they thought of South Korea they had an image close to 1970s Vietnam in mind.

In Korea... a few days ago I tried to send something to Scotland. Now this lady working at the post office had no idea where SCOTLAND was. You know if you send something to the UK, often you just write "England" or "Scotland" and "Wales" and people will know where to send it to. I've sent multiple things to England without problems. But this lady didn't know what country it was becuase obviously in the post office it's written under "United Kingdom." City slicker. Dumb as a doorknob.

And it's true that exposure gives the impression of majority. Like in the US in a runup to the 2004 election, the TV was showered with anti-Bush messages that anyone who just watched TV for one day would have thought that Bush had 0 chance of winning the election. Singers, actors etc. etc. filled the airwaves with their opinions and messages. But they were not the majority nor did their influence win the Democrats the election. Must have been quite a slap in the face for those egotistical morons. Oh right, so what education credentials did these actors and singers have? Hmmm..... High School, High School, High School, University!!! But a theater major...

no, i did read what you wrote, and considered it too. we have differing opinions is all.

the election was LOST by the democrats rather than won by bush. the democrats had no candidate and the bush campaign machine flug mud like there was no tomorrow. it all comes back to this question; how can the US claim to export democracy when they have the most messed up version of it.

with such a divisive foriegn policy, it's no wonder that we upitty ferners and domestic malcontents are unhappy

NZ, yes I think you got it right there. The Democrats lost it more than Bush winning it. I really don't think anything Bush did, including the whole Swift Boat Veterans Against Kerry thing, made the difference.
I actually think the Democrats had trouble controlling their own party.

And no it's not a difference of opinion on the Democrats losing the home front. That's exactly what happened. They screwed with Christianity. This was so stupid. Did you know the USSR, an OFFICIALLY Atheistic government, didn't mess with Islam in its Central Asian Soviet socialist republics?? Do you know why? Because they knew that once they did that, they would lose all legitimacy with those people and even for a dictatorship, they would become impossible to control.

Kerry was not a bad candidate. I personally think the clowns around him lost it with all their extremist rhetoric and their association with far left organizations. Kerry was called a "flip flop" because he had to some how appease these people as well as not lose the whole country in the proccess. Kerry versus Bush... person for person? Kerry might actually be the better man. That's what I thought anyways.

There was nothing wrong with American democracy here. In fact, it worked perfectly. Since when has democracy been a shouting competition?

We are older than many of you.

just to mention,so it woldnt look like im talking crap, serbia was founded as a state in 9th century, anyhow,i dont think that that man had right to go over the flag, since that is showing dissrespect to whole nation, not to bush only

Serbia was founded as a state then yes, it isn't the same government however. You haven't had a king in quite awhile and your present government has only been in power since 1992. So you are "young" in that sense.

I do appreciate your sentiment regarding the picture that started this topic.

Yup. Just like how Korea can trace it roots back to what most historians believe is 37 BC. However, the Republic of Korea was born in 1948.

chewie_nz, you will not be warned again, if you make another post insulting any state's leader or any demographic of any nation without providing sufficient proof for your own "bigotry," you will immediately be banned, temporary or permanent depending on the severity of the violation.

To the members in general, if you cannot provide verifiable proof of an accusation, do not post it as fact, this will result in immediate disciplinary action. This post is the only warning that you will receive in this thread.

U.S are not the only country that get´s their flag desecrated, this is so called "anti-fascism riot" (Anti-everything/everyone group) where they burn our flag in the city of Lund Sweden 2001 after the sep 11 attack. There are alot of crazy ppl in this world thats for sure.

"Some ppl are alive simply because it is illegal to kill them." 8)

Some say ignorance is bliss, well no my friends, ignorance is just plain foolish. People forget how lucky they are to take advantage of certain freedoms. Ignorance is ignorance but some swords are single edged... When you're wrong you are wrong and when the soldiers died to give the protester a right to protest, they really only died to give them the choice. Will you demonstrate yourself as an ignorant fool, unsupportive of the empire, or will you bask in servitude? That is the question my friends and if anyone figures out what the fundamental difference is between those who are willing to fight and die for their country (USMC HOORAH!) and those who are willing to desecrate THEIR flag (even though they claim it to be of foreign content) in front of others causing more scorn then actually accomplishing what they wish to accomplish?

i guess city people and country people are way different than i thought

apparently from a couple country folks i was talking with back in 04 when my friends car broke down in texas, they werent so interested in making money, or being successful and conquering the world, they just wanted to live a peaceful life and shoot cans ( seriously, thats what he said)

people in the city wanted success in busineses, we wanted to do things that will grant us alot of money

dont bash new york city man, its my hometown ( well for the last 3 years or so).

dont bash chicago, boston, jersey or phili either

I live in the country. I do quite well financially. Been in investments and stock trading for decades. There goes your "theory".

yeah but

Its good to hear people have not lost their way with their countries but at end of day I stand by the fact that a country lets this on their selfs.

Immagraints don't move to a country cus they like it they move as they have been allowed in.

Many countries have this problem aswell as USA, yet the government in some ways takes care of these refugee's/assylum seekers more than its own people.

I say governments need to look more closely at their own home before others.

Yes Anya, the problem is that the government caters to these bad immigrants. There are those who spend a lot of time learning the language and learning the ways of their new land, and then there are those who complain that the signs aren't in their language.
Why is it these pricks that ruin it for all the other immigrants being protected? By doing this obviously there will be racial tensions within a city.
And then the whole "need to protect" attitude spreads to those "do gooders." Ugh... Do you know how it is harder for me to go places etc now? When was the last time a South Korean blew up a plane? In the name of political correctness, we ALL have to suffer.
It's stupid.
Then some people call this justice. Whatever the problem is much deeper than that.

maybe?

I know this is a far step to try but the reason i think that countries like USA and UK are letting so many refugee's in is like a peace keeping. That if a country see's us helping there's less chance of hassal from them.

But it don't work lol
