Someone known to me lost his right leg in a motorcycle accident, he went to apply for a grant and was told (I kid you not) that he has to get an affidavit from the police confirming that he had his right leg amputated!

If I was a copper and a bloke with one leg came in the nick asking for an affidavit saying he has lost his leg, I'd think either he was taking the piss or he was asking if one had been handed in.
