One person was reported killed and several ISAF (International Security Assistance Force) soldiers were wounded in an explosion in the Faryab province of Afghanistan.
"A Finnish soldier has been killed. Two Norwegian officers were injured in the attack," said Kjetil Eide, communications adviser for Joint Command headquarters in Stavanger.
The two Norwegian soldiers did not receive life threatening injuries," Eide said.
"The explosion took place about 100 meters from the ISAF base in Meymaneh in northern Afghanistan," Eide said, and explained that the type of explosive charge indicated that it was likely detonated by remote control, though this had not yet been proven.
There were a total of four Norwegian soldiers, two of them officers, injured in the blast. Two suffered minor fragment wounds in the leg and the two others received superficial injuries.
It is still unknown if the explosion was due to a bomb placed by the side of the road of it had been detonated by a suicide bomber.
Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg issued a comment at 10 a.m. after learning the news.
"We have been informed that a bomb has exploded in Afghanistan and that Norwegian soldiers are injured. This shows that this is a dangerous and important mission," Stoltenberg said.
The PM said that there was no question that Norwegian forces would be pulled out and that Norway had a "long-term perspective" in Afghanistan.
