German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier has extended his gratitude to the Afghan authorities and the Norwegian special forces who on Monday assisted in freeing the German woman aid worker who was abducted and held hostage since Saturday.

Christina Maier. who was abducted while leaving a restaurant in Kabul after having dinner with her husband, is a staffer for Ora International, a Christian aid organization.

Her captors, who denied they were a part of Taliban, were captured in the mission.

- I also want to thank Norway for the role played by its troops in the action, Foreign Minister Steinmeier said in Berlin on Monday.

He did not elaborate on what Norway's contribution had been, but according to NRK, it was a unit of the Norwegian special forces who assisted the Afghan security forces in the operation to free the hostage.

Major General Roald Sundseth at the Joint Operation Center confirms that Norway has a special force in Kabul, but does not want to give details of the Norwegian force's role in the mission.

Hi sunb! can you post a link to this story I would like to read the whole story if I could. Is it in English? Thanks:wink:

I´ll tip my cap to the Norwegian quiet proffesionals involved in this.
Had nothing come out in the press this would have been a zero strikes mission.
Too bad the german couldn´t keep his trap shut.

Good work all around is my conclusion from the little I´ve heard about this.
