New screw up of Spanish Socialists

Chavez was elected in 1998 and re-elected in 2000. he faces a half-term referendum in August 2004 -which is possible in only three countries in all over the world and this disposition came into force under chavez first gov'- and won it : the majority of the opposition recognized it. Moreover this opposition tried to remove him by a putsch (April 2002). What do you want anymore?

I remember that some TV-channels broadcasted virulent anti-Chavez propaganda, which would not have been possible if it was a marxist regime !

I rather believe that the US fear that south america turn toward the left.., but left wing does not always means marxism.

Having left out the parts of the alledged ballot box stuffing on the part of Hugito and compadres.
Take a look back at how he has steadily gone from a moderate to a socialist to a hard core socialist. Fidel did the same thing in Cuba when he was gearing up and when he was operating in the Mountains and having just conquered Havanna. In the end it worked out real well for Cuba he went totaly Marxist siezed everything and now the people are happy and content. Which is why the Coast Guard is forever picking up boatloads of Content Cubanos headed for Florida.

When the results of an election don't suit us it means that the elections are rigged of course : that's too easy. Anyway during the referendum, about 600 observers were in the country (members of Carter Center, the european parliament and an other one I don't remember its name).

Moreover Chavez's not marxist, perhaps he's socialist... bah this is not a shame.

he has steadily gone from a moderate to a socialist to a hard core socialist
examples? Anyway while he's a socialist and not a marxist it is not important.
It remembers me when François Mitterrand, the leader of the Socialist Party, came to power in France (1981, OK I was not born) : the right wing parties made some predictions : parade of soviet tanks, the end of the private property, etc...

I'm from the US my Mothers Family is Mexican/Tejano. My fathers family is Irish and Welsh and Mexican. I still have family in Mexico Uncles etc. I have a large interest Latin American Affairs and have spent alot of time there.

The Carter Center can't.....stop.......laughing.........hurts.........stop.......please. European...... Parliment .............Ohhhhhhh........Stop.............killing .........me.

You need to do some studying Latin American Affairs and Politics Perriot . Chavez calls himself a socialist . Fidel Castro called himself a democrat in the beginning and slowly slid left until he came out of the Serria Myestra and into Havanna.

Now lets look at Hugitos heros. Fidel Castro and El Che. He's never made any bones about his idolization of the two. To be like Fidel he will need to slowly Nationalize everything in Venezuela he's started that. He will need to support and promote Marxist Guerillas thru out Latin America. He's started that on an unknown scale with FARC in Columbia.

Socialist? No Canada is Socialist, I don't see them assisting Guerillas. Hugo is like Fidel. A tin pot Latin American Dictator in waiting and a danger to the region.

European...... Parliment .............Ohhhhhhh........Stop.............killing .........me.

Ehhh, what´s wrong with european Parlament......?? ;)
I think that the problem in south america is that people are so poor and used to the corruption of their leaders that when some guy like Hugo C. starts with the populistic retoric everybody loves him, even when he is liying. Something similar happened in Brasil with Lula Da Silva, I expended a month in Rio last summer and all the people I met (I was leaving In St.Teresa, very close to the favelas, I mean, I wasn´t in a rich zone) was pretty upset with him.

Thats the problem in all of Latin America not just South America. The Goverments are usually corrupt from the Top down to the lowliest clerk in the Municipal Office. The resources are tightly controlled by the Higher Class and the proceedes are diverted that Direction.

It's the culture it's been that way since the 1500's. Castro is no different. Chavez is no different they just have good press agents.

I think that the solution of the problem in south america is quite difficult, it should beguin with a change on peoples mind and they will only get that through more education, a fare division of the land..and so many other things..

And there lays the rub. Tin Pots like Hugito and Fidel espouse the values of Land Reform and Educational Reform (although giving credit where it is due Castro did make 100% literacy happen for the most part in Cuba). They promise the working class and lower class their own land and better opportunities. Every Revolutionary in the History of Latin America from Bolivar and San Martin to Pancho Villia and Daniel Ortega have made the same promise.

In the cases of the Constitutional Revoluntionaries Bolivar, San Martin and Villa the land reforms happened in a small scope. Most of the land remaining with the Rico's as long as they agreed to play nice.

In the cases of the Marxists Castro , Ortega and soon Chavez . Yes they reformed land ownership. It's owned by the Goverment and the great opportunities are to work the land for the Goverment and recieve whatever the Goverment chooses to allot them.

Chavez is capable of about anything. His beef with Colombia and Columbias with him revolves around his support of the FARC Guerillas and his harboring of high ranking FARC officials. I don't see Hugo attacking Columbia right now because the US would without a doubt assist Columbia. He's crazy but not that stupid....I hope.

However I would keep an eye on Guayana. A border dispute has been going on for years concerning the Esquibo Region. I think that Hugo would think nothing of attacking over it.

.

What kind of support is Hugo giving to the FARC?? Is he letting them venezuela´s territory to hide them...??

A few months ago. Columbia employeed Bounty Hunters to capture a FARC commander who was hiding in Venezuela. This is after Hugo lied to Columbia and told them the guy wasn't there. He then of course started wailing about Venezuela being violated.

Umm, I didn´t knew it..It just happened once or its his usual policy?

All sources say he's done it, doing it and will continue to do it. There are also rumors that orders have been issued to the military of Venzuelea not to interfer with FARC formations crossing the Border but to engage any Colombian military units attempting to do so.

That is not a very smart policy. Colombia might get tired one day and start the shots.

Waouh ! what a killing argument ! I am convinced !

I am still waiting for examples I've asked you 03...

Concerning an attack against Colombia.... let's see some figures :
military expenditures of Venezuela : 1.126 billion $ and Colombia : 3,3 billion $. So I doubt Chavez's going to attack Colombia.
source ->http://www.odci.gov/cia/publications/factbook/geos/ve.html
Don't pretend it's a marxist source ! :D

The amount of money has nothing to do with the Price of Pancitos in Caracas. Chavez is actively allowing FARC to harbor in his country. Eventually the Colombians are going to have to seal their border or pursue FARC into Venzuelea. A large Colombian military presence on the Border will antagonize Chavez make no doubt about that.

Chavez attempted a Coup in 1992 as a Lt. Col in the Military. It failed. His statement after the failure. "We were not successful
Por ahora "for now."
