MOSCOW, July 24 (Itar-Tass) - The S-400 Triumph air defence missile system will become operational in the town of Elektrostal outside Moscow on Monday. Taking part in the ritual of alerting the new air defence system will be Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Air Force Colonel-General Alexander Zelin and representatives of the personnel of the research and production association NPO Almaz, aide to the AF commander-in-chief Colonel Alexander Drobyshevsky told Itar-Tass.
The S-400 Triumph air defence missile system is designed to destroy aircraft made with the use of the Stealth technology, small cruise and tactical missiles, as well as warheads flying at a speed of up to 4.8 kilometres pert second at a range of up to 400 kilometres and is capable of replacing three S-300 systems.
Regarding the “effectiveness” criterion the Triumph is almost three times better than analogous types that are currently in the army service. This system is capable of hitting aircraft and cruise missiles at all altitudes of tactical employment practically starting from 10 metres, while the American air defence system Patriot has the minimal height of hit targets of 60 metres.
The S-400 uses both standard and super long-range missiles. They have a high probability of hitting targets in one launch. Micro-engines installed on the rockets allow them to manoeuvre at altitudes up to 35 kilometres with G-load of over 20 units, which ensures high effectiveness of hitting medium- and small-range ballistic missiles.
“The corresponding military-technical base has been created in the body of troops that adopted the S-400 system for service and the personnel has been correspondingly trained,” Drobyshevsky said. “It is planned to use the Triumph system in the interests of the missile defence and for shielding major industrial centres of Russia,” according to the official.
“The regiment personnel passed examinations and had a successful drill at the Defence Ministry’s training range on July 12-13,” Drobyshevsky said earlier. “The servicemen returned to their permanent location and started to prepare for the new mission.”
S-400 can be used against cruise missiles, planes and warheads of non-strategic ballistic missiles at a variety of altitudes and the range of 400 kilometres. The system can fire both S-300 and S-400 missiles.
“New missiles, which fly very far and very rapidly and hit ballistic targets, have been designed for the Triumph system,” Air Force former Commander Gen. Vladimir Mikhailov said earlier. “The missiles are using new engines, they have a smaller size and better control systems.”

mean looking

It does look rather nasty hopefully no non-friendly nations will buy it soon. The things on wheels so it can change positions daily.

"This system is capable of hitting aircraft and cruise missiles at all altitudes of tactical employment practically starting from 10 metres, while the American air defence system Patriot has the minimal height of hit targets of 60 metres."

I wonder if that true about what's written about the Patriot 60 metres?
