Hello everyone,
I have lurked for a while and decided to finally join up. My name is Mike, 23, currently living in St. Pete, FL, USA. I am going through delayed entry so i can finish up school right now. Signed up and DEPed in as a 68W (health care specialist) leaving for Ft. Benning on 7 Aug and then on to Ft. Sam Houston. I have a background in Emergency medicine as well (just cant get a damn job working in it in the civilian sector). I also come from a military family, mostly US airforce and great grandfather was Danish infantry as well.

Welcome aboard young man. If your going to finish school first, why not try OCS?
When you say emergency medicine, do you mean EMT? Their are a ton of jobs for those folks in the country, may have to relocate though.

I was looking at OCS but i need to finish my 4 year degree and i am not financially able to do that right now, I am working on my AA and I do have an AS for emergency medicine along with my NR EMT-B cert. The AS is not transferable into a 4 year program though so i had to start it all over again. I have been looking in many places but with tons of budget cuts EMT jobs without fire or EMT-P is very hard to come by. I am on a few waiting lists but they are over a year long at this point. I have had an interest in the various armed services since before highschool and when I started doing my research on the Army's medical fields and on into AMEDD everything started falling into place.

Welcome. I waited until I finished my enlistment to finish up college using the GI Bill. You could always reinlist after College.

If you do the job as a Corpsman in the Navy than you could have the best of both worlds, USMC/Navy if you get assigned a marine unit.

Welcome!
With military experience, you will probably find coming back to the civilian sector will be easier as you'll have a huge boost in terms of the "experience" category.
