New cat!

He's in desperate need of a good bath, how do you go about bathing them and keeping hold of all your fingers!!!!

I'd suggest very carefully. However, If you grab the moggy by the scruff of the neck he should go limp, unless South African moggies are different to UK ones.:-D

Question for you Trooper, the wife has been adopted by a scraggy old 3 legged mog, he was skin and bone when he landed on the doorstep. He's all filled out now and he lives in the shed sleeping on an old winter quilt next to a radiator. He's in desperate need of a good bath, how do you go about bathing them and keeping hold of all your fingers!!!!

You shouldn't have to bath a cat unless it is covered in something such as oil, or anything like that.
Cats in good health will keep themselves clean.
Bathing will not kill fleas, a good flea treatment from your vet, such as Spot On, or Advantage will do the job.
Avoid cheep supermarket treatments, especially Bob Martins!
If the animal deperately needs a bath, then it should be done as if you are bathing a baby.
Only use baby shampoo.
Warm water and, as Brit said, scruffing them them does help, but not always.
If the cat freaks out, let go, back off, and forget it!
Oh, and good luck!!!!

Could always use a fire hose at a million pounds of pressure, not only will it wash the moggy, it'll take its smelly fur off.
