The Navy has suspended use of its BDU-48 training bombs while an investigation continues into how one dropped accidentally Tuesday in Virginia Beach.
Mike Moss, a spokesman for the Atlantic Fleet Naval Air Force, said the measure was taken Friday as a precaution until the investigation determines what went wrong.
"Normal training will continue as scheduled," Moss said, just without use of the device.
One of the 10-pound inert bombs fell from an Oceana Naval Air Station F/A-18 that was returning from the Navy's Dare County, N.C., bomb range. The device, which carries no explosives and only emits a bit of smoke to indicate where it has fallen, caused little damage and no injuries when it hit a wall.
