Navy SEALs and Manhood = Magical thinking?

This is interesting... The author is saying that we have fooled ourselves into thinking that if we create a bunch of Rambos that everything will work out for our side in the end.

This isn't so much an attack on the troops themselves as much as I think it is someone saying that maybe we need to think more longer term and less blind super heroes.

And Special Forces are not blind superheroes but talented soldiers with wide range of competences.

Once, I heard a quote "Today's Spec Op soldier is more James Bond than Rambo'...

Perhaps there's some truth to that. Modern SEALs, Rangers, etc...are trained in electronics, linguistics, all sorts of things that don't necessarily go 'BANG'.

Nothing new under the sun. Same during WWII.

This has me PO'd - nearly all the men I knew in special ops were fathers, husbands, read books and had fellings. He makes us sound like robots.
