Navy Flags

Does any one here know about Naval flags?

What do they mean?

I'll be glad if any one can help with this matter!

Weel, I wasn't in the Navy but I know they have signal flags, one for each international alphabet and one for each number 0 thru 9. All the others, I have no idea. The signal flags are for signaling ship to ship and ship to shore.

4 reasons:

1. pre-telecommunications means of sending a message from ship to ship, ship to shore - including orders, directions.

2. post-telecommunications (as well as flash light, morse code) silent way of communicating without enemy detection (enemy close up however could also read)

3. signalling friend or foe passwords

4. permanent meassage or warning. You ring someone, your message lasts a few seconds or minutes. Flags provide an on-going message/warning.
