Insurgents attacked a NATO patrol in volatile Helmand province in southern Afghanistan, killing one soldier and wounding another. The alliance did not released the soldiers' nationalities, but most troops in Helmand are British, though U.S. forces and others also operate there. Militants also fired a rocket at opium poppy eradication police, killing two policemen.
