AP - A senior Muslim cleric compared women who go without a head scarf to "uncovered meat" left out for scavengers, drawing widespread condemnation and calls Thursday for his resignation.

Because his statements are echoed by many other muslim clerics. I've heard the same stuff here in China from the Uighur clerics and from the majority of clerics in Indonesia and there is plenty of evidence this is a common sentiment in the muslim population.
