Moussaoui sentenced to life without parole.

Moussaoui was sentenced to Colorado's SuperMax ... a life sentence without the possibility of parole.

Moussaoui will spend 23 hours out of every 24 hours in a 7' X 12' cell (isolation) ... his cell is almost a bare cubbyhole of concrete. It contains a sink, a toilet, a bed, a black and white closed circuit television (the only tv fare will be religious and educational shows selected by the authorities). ... he will be allowed 1 hour of personal exercise (with chains attached). He will never again be allowed the company of man (with the exception of guards and periodic visits by family and lawyers).

At the sentencing, the judge told Moussaoui that he had best make the best of his speech before the court ... it would be the last time in this lifetime that he would be able to address the public (or) see the outside world ... he will die in prison without ever again having access to the press ... his correspondence will be so heavily edited that he would not recognize it as something he wrote.

His death at the hands of an executioner, would have made Moussaoui a martyr ... a life sentence shows the world that all he really is, is a sorry excuse of a terrorist who got his just deserts.

Moussaoui will live out his life in the gray walled cells of a SuperMax Prison ... he will live long enough to realize it would have been better IF he had received the death sentence.

Who is to say which is worse ... an execution or having nothing to look forward to but more endless days of nothingness, stretching out for years ... knowing you will end up dying behind the gray walls of prison.

Just wait until he gets raped by one of his cell neighbors. Sure, he spends 23 hours in a cell but in one hour Bubba can get a quicky.

No way ...

It will never happen ... he will NEVER be allowed access to another inmate ... the only time he will see another inmate is when he (or they), are taken from their cells and escorted to the hole they use for their 1 hour exercise period.

That is what is meant by "SuperMax" ... the largest group you will ever see in this type prison, is made up of 1 prisoner and the rest guards. Conversations between prisoners is NOT allowed either.

I thimk its a just punishment. This guy wanted to die anyway, why give him the priliage of a painless path to myrtardom? Since we cannot use the methods that he truly deserves (ala Spanish inquestion), this way is almost as good.

He will die slowly, painfully, mourned by none, forgotten by all.

I still say we feed him pork for the rest of his days. Nothing else, except water.

Go figure, I believe that would be against the US Constitution. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Great, so not only did he help in the death over over 3000 civilians, most American, but now we get to pay for him to live out the rest of his life. Oh joy, thank you so much.

Actaully by not having him on death row. We save money.

A Death Row Inmate gets appeal after appeal. And the Government must fight everyone of those in court with our tax money. On top of that, they wont put him to death until he's in his mid fifties. He'll sit there for twenty to thirty years until they put the needle in him.

I would rather have this scum sucker sit in a 7X12 cell with concrete furniture and a grey wall to look at for the rest of his life. Also, if he put him to death. He would become a martyr for the terrorist. By not granting his wish for a quick death, he will suffer hell on Earth.

Average cost for a Supermax inmate: $30,000 per year
Average cost for a for a Death Row Inmate: $70,000 - $100,000 per year because of the endless appeals.

good show on our part, we prevented him from attaining martyrdom and therefore inspiring the kind of violene we saw in the 80s and 90s with the deaths of Christian Identity leaders and the like.

Tim McVeigh, for example, destroyed teh Murrah building in revenge for martyring David Koresh. Koresh was hacked off about Ruby Ridge, and the guys at Ruby Ridge, if I recall correctly, had their boxers in a bunch because of the martyrdom of a guy in the Christian Identity by the last name of Matthews.

Except it is doubtful he would have filed for an appeal, he had already stated he would not.

Not all on death row spend most of their lives waiting to get juiced, Tim McVeigh for example.

I would rather him be dead or placed in GenPop in a NY prison where he'd still be dead.

I can't think of a worse death .........

PJ
The ONLY problem with him being executed is that he would automatically become a martyr to a bunch of religious fanatics for a very long time and be held up as one whom they would wish to emulate (thus perpetuating violance) ... this way, he will live a very marginal existence for the rest of his natural life and fade from all human consciousness. He will die an all but forgotten man ... and ... he will die alone.

Under the circumstances,
I can't think of a worse death ... (or) ... a better ending for Moussaoui.

As far as the money ... it is a fact that it costs less to house a prisoner in a SuperMax's solitary confinement than it does on death row (almost 1/2 as much).

Yeah, I know that. And you and 5.56 are right, but I can't help but want him dead. The fact that he will live a safe existance, be fed and housed and be allowed the basic rights he deprived others of doesn't sit well with me.

This is one of those double edged swords for me personally. I see and understand the logic, but I can't support it.

Either way, he's done for, he'll never be able to be a part of society and therefore a terrorist org. again so at least that much was accomplished.

Believe me PJ, after five to ten years he will wish he was dead. And then he still has to go many many more years. I personally can't think of a more cruel punishment than to keep somebody locked away for ever and no opportunity to get into contact with another person. This will be as close to hell as possible on this planet. It drags out endlessly and he'll be yearning for death in a decade or two. May he rot in hell!

You know I am not so sure about that. I'm certain that Moussaoui would like to think that would be the case, but I honestly think al-Qeada views him as a toilet paper, you use it once and then discard it. Al-Qaida really only values the nut-jobs with specific skills or assets. Whether your're a millionaire, good charisma for recruitment and propaganda purposes, or have underground contacts, or have weapon or explosive training, these are the guys al-Qaida values. Thats why you never see these guys do a suicide mission themselves. The suicide jobs are given to the meatheads with no other use to the cause, and they are plenififul nowadays, so even the more reason not to sacrifice a more valuable person.

Tim McVeigh went to the gallows convinced that his death would inspire every anti-government whackjob in the USA. In fact, just the opposite occurred.

On on the slightly demented note: Gilbert and Sullivan once wrote "let the punishment fit the crime". I thought bringing back cruxificition for Islamic Terrorists was a apt punishment. I wonder if they get the 72 virgins offer gets nixed if they buy the farm that way? (hehehe).
