FALLUJAH, Iraq, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- Insurgents lobbed a US- Iraqi
military base in a town outside Fallujah, west of Baghdad, with several
mortar rounds on Monday, causing casualties, witnesses said.
"At least eight mortar rounds landed on the US and Iraqi military base
in Ameriyat al-Fallujah town, killing and wounding unknown number of US and
Iraqi soldiers," Abdul Rahman, a local journalist told Xinhua by telephone.
Two civilians were also wounded by the attack in the town, one of them
received critical wounds, he said.
Ameriyat al-Fallujah situated about 7 KM south of the flashpoint city of
Fallujah. The area, which is part of Anbar province, has long been
witnessing tensions as insurgents frequently attack the US and Iraqi
security forces.
