MY BROTHER TODD and our older sister Dawn are both in the Air Force. Todd was deployed to the Persian Gulf last December, while Dawn's unit remained in the States. Soon after the completion of Operation Desert Storm, Dawn called home and said her division might be sent to the Gulf to pack up equipment.

"Things never change," Mom told her. "Your kid brother makes the mess, and you're still cleaning up after him."
