The 131st Air National Guard Fighter Wing at Lambert is performing maintenance on its grounded F-15s.
While the F-15s are unavailable, it doesn't mean the state is lacking adequate air patrol, said Lt. Col. Don Arias, chief spokesman for the 1st Air Force, based in Florida.
"We stand up and down alert sites around the United States. It's a big chess game," Arias said. "What I can tell you, though, is that Missouri's covered."
The 1st Air Force has oversight for all combat air patrols in the United States. For "operational security" reasons, Arias said he could not release details on how air patrols were adjusting to the grounded F-15 fleet.
Illinois Guard units don't fly F-15s. The 183rd Fighter Wing in Springfield, which flies the F-16, has been deployed to Louisiana to assist with its air patrols.
