I'm glad the Iranians are training to fight us in open feilds. Not in the cities. I hope we never have to go into Iran on the ground. But if we do im happy that there training up to get their ass kicked in open feilds were the US can bring every advantage they have over Iran to bear.

What you see up here is Iranian regular army which uses the western doctrine of fighting the wars (Their higher brass were trained by US Army and British Army in 1970s) so they fight the war like US did back in 1970s or 60s. Simple!

But when it comes to irregular armed forces of the regime (Basij and Revolutionary guards) they are no different than Hamas or Hezbollah. They sure will hide among civilians and they will try to draw US led forces into cities so they can more casualties on civilian side and take the advantage of having leftist/liberal media on their own side.

You ought to remember these two important points when it comes to Iranian armed forces.

great pictures phoenix.
how potent is the Irani military, compared to the rest of the middle east atleast?

They are not bad compared to most mideastern countries since they have exprienced an 8 yr war in 1980s and most senior commanders know how to handle battlefields, but their western equipments are aging and pushing the envelope which is not good.

They're stuck in 1970s in terms of tactics and most of their equipments are of that era.

According to CENTCOM Commander, Gen. Abizaid in interview with Hugh Hewitt, Iranian military can provide effective defense in depth and capable of defending their territory while they may lose the skies once the battle begin.
