Pretty damn time something is being done.....Hopefully I'll get to visit Mexico pretty soon....miss the damn food down there..sigh...

Don't get excited ten more took their place before they even got to the carcel

True...so true.....I wonder though, how long it will be before we can enter Mexico without being afraid of getting hurt or killed???..I guess this next time I visit El Paso, I wont be able to cross the border...sigh..damn,..

If Calderon continues to use the Army and seriously cleans out and retrains and pays the Policia from the Municipal Level up to the Anti-Narcotico level it could be cleaned up.

This whole mess can be traced right back to the wink ,wink, nudge, nudge realationship that the PRI had with the cartels when they were in power and Vincente Fox hoping they would go away if he did the bare minimum and ignored it. Hopefully Calderon can do better if given the proper support.

I totally agree......The reason behind the exposure in Mexico's drug violence is due to Calderon actually wanting and in many ways making positive changes in such a corrupt country...he said "before it gets better it's gonna get worse" I have seen the changes since hes been in office...he really cares and wont bargain w/drug lords,...it goes to prove that changes can be made..slowly, and unfortunatly deaths have to happen in order for Calderon to clean up his country..

And at least he's trying. Which is more than can be said for the last few Presidents who were content to allow it as long as they got their share of mordida.

Yup...It's so funny you bring up mordidas" we used get bit all the time in Juarez, we had to always carry that extra bit of change for the "placas" lunch hahaahaha,

Thats the problem. They get paid so little that La Mordida is instutionalized within the ranks of the Police. They figure it's a fringe benefit.

True...I havent see it as much lately though...I guess cuz all of the anti-drug movement....It's so unfortunate cuz, Mexico has it's beauties and people can't take advantage of that at the moment....:-(

Its pretty cool to dialogue with someone who knows about where I come from ;)

These are just the realities that come with poor countries. People seem to fail to realize that wealth is important.

The thing is that Mexico is not poor....really I know you're LOL, but it's the honest truth...It's the damn corruption and thiefs in the government...It's really amazing how years, and years of corruption can be turned around positively, by one president who for once is willing to do something about it....Calderon is a pretty awsome fellow :)

Well, it's not rich enough to pay its police force properly. I'd say that's pretty poor.
Either that or Mexico's alright but hasn't shaken off its corruption habit from the days it used to be real poor. A lot of countries suffer from that. They develop economically but psychologically they're still well behind in their past.

Well it's really based in a class structure that goes back to Colonial times in Mexico and Latin America. The "ruling classes" can trace their power back to Spanish appointments and land grants, despite a buncha revolutions to stop that.

Mexico has the elements needed to step up into an industrialized nation. Natural resources, industry potential and a work force. But the fact is that Mexican business leaders and goverment officials who generally come from the Upper Strata tend to control all the money and use poverty to control the Pobre's. Add that to the fact that forgien business use Mexico and the current pay rate of Mexico (about 50.00 bucks a week) to increase profit margins while making sure that the Jefe's get their cut it causes a vicious circle. I'm not trying to sound socialist revoluntionary, but thats how it is.

The goverment workers Police, Postal, Fire, etc are all considered low level menial jobs and there for paid low and not given to the best and brighest or people that have a committment to service. It could be fixed but not quickly. At least Calderon is making a little headway.

Like you said, Mexico has lots of natural resources which make the country rich in exportation...now, the only thing is for Calderon to keep doing what's hes been doing.....I can definetly see a bigger change :)
