Men Still Don't Ask for Directions

AS COMMANDER of an army reserve unit in Utah, I was sent to visit a similar unit in Stuttgart, Germany. A young noncom was assigned to drive me to briefings at the unit's headquarters in Worms. Setting out, I asked, "Do you know where you're going?" He assured me that he did. But soon he pulled over to look at a map.

"Sergeant," I repeated, "do you know where you're going?"

"I know where I'm going, sir," he replied. "I just don't know how to get there from here."
