Today is Memorial Day here in the United States, thank you to all those who have served. To those who have paid the ultimate price and given all, rest in peace and God bless you for your sacrifice.

We cherish too, the Poppy red
That grows on fields where valor led,
It seems to signal to the skies
That blood of heroes never dies.
-Moina Michael

For those that do not know what our Memorial Day is about, it is a day set aside to remember those who have died in service to our nation.

God Bless the men who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

On thy grave the rain shall fall from the eyes of a mighty nation! ~Thomas William Parsons

They fell, but o'er their glorious grave
Floats free the banner of the cause they died to save.
~Francis Marion Crawford

The Marine stood and faced his God
Which must always come to pass
He hoped his shoes were shining
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, you Devil-Dog,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my Church have you been true?"

The Marine squared his shoulders and said,
"No Lord, I guess I ain't "
"Because those of us who carry guns
Can't always be a saint."

I've had to work most Sundays
And at times my talk was rough,
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But, I never took a penny
That wasn't mine to keep...
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills just got too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear,
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

And I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here,
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fears.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand,
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't , I'll understand."

There was a silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod
As the Marine waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.

"Step forward now, you Marine,
You've borne your burdens well,
Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in HELL."

Semper Fi brothers,

you will all never be forgotten.

Memorial Day is to remember all of us that have gave it all for what we believe is true. Whether you agree with the politics of a situation or not you must always believe in your fellow brothers and sisters in arms and remember they did this/are doin this for you.

GOD BLESS AMERICA!
GOD BLESS ALL FALLEN FOR HER!
They gave their lives for freedom and liberty!
And they'll be never forgoten!

I saw flags lowered to half last monday and I was confused because memorial day was the week before but then I remembered reading in the almanac that when a president dies (Reagan) the flag is lowered to half. I dont know how long though.

Found it:

The flag shall be flown at half-staff 30 days from the death of the President or a former President; 10 days from the day of death of the Vice President, the Chief Justice or a retired Chief Justice of the United States, or the Speaker of the House of Representatives; from the day of death until interment of an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, a Secretary of an executive or military department, a former Vice President, or the Governor of a State, territory, or possession; and on the day of death and the following day for a Member of Congress. The flag shall be flown at half-staff on Peace Officers Memorial Day, unless that day is also Armed Forces Day. As used in this subsection.
