CAMP PENDLETON, Calif., Feb. 9 (AP) — Military prosecutors must restart their case against a Marine corporal who decided to withdraw his guilty plea for the murder of an unarmed Iraqi civilian.
The marine, Cpl. Trent Thomas, 25, told a judge on Thursday that he no longer believed he was guilty and that he had been following a lawful order given by his squad leader. Corporal Thomas had earlier pleaded guilty to several charges, including kidnapping and murder.
The charges stem from the killing of Hashim Ibrahim Awad, 52, in Hamdania last year.
