Twenty-seven out of the 84 Medals of Honor awarded to US Marines during the forty three months of fighting during World War II were for only 37 days of conflict on Iwo Jima, a record that is unsurpassed by any battle in US history.

During World War II, there were 81 Marines and 57 Navy medal of honor recipients. During the assault on Iwo Jima, 22 Marines and 5 Sailors received the Congressional Medals of Honor for their actions. And the names...I don't know. But I found 27 names same as above.....
