BALTIMORE -- A former civilian employee at Aberdeen Proving Ground was sentenced to a year and a half in prison for a scheme in which he overcharged the Army for goods he kept.
Among those materials were hundreds of golf balls that Douglas Atwell, 52, of Port Deposit, described as a "ball bearing assortment."
Atwell also must serve three years of supervised release and pay more than $290,000 in restitution. He pleaded guilty in November to bribery in relation to a scheme to defraud the government.
Gerald Yursis, 47, who also pleaded guilty in the scam, was sentenced to home confinement because of a medical condition.
