BATON ROUGE, La. - LSU forward Glen Davis was taken to the hospital for evaluation after being in an automobile accident early Sunday morning just hours after the Tigers' 66-49 victory over Connecticut.
LSU coach John Brady said Davis was released from Baton Rouge General Medical Center later Sunday morning and would participate in a no-contact walkthrough Sunday night in preparation for 14th-ranked LSU's Southeastern Conference opener Tuesday night at No. 8 Alabama.
"He's banged up and a little sore, but he should ready to play by Tuesday night," Brady said. "He was very lucky."
Davis left the Pete Maravich Assembly Center late Saturday and was driving to get something to eat when his car was broadsided by another driver who apparently ran a stop sign, Brady said. The impact was severe enough to trigger Davis' driver-side air bag. Davis was alone in the vehicle, Brady said.
Brady said he and his wife went to the hospital after they were called about the accident.
"It's scary to get a call like that," Brady said. "You don't know how bad it is until you get there and see Glen himself."
When Brady got to Davis' bedside, the 6-foot-9, 300-pound junior was groggy from pain medication but in his normal good spirits.
Davis, who turned 21 on New Year's Day, was given a series of tests, X-rays and a CAT scan. Doctors told Brady that Davis's right side, ribs and knees will be sore.
Davis biggest concern, Brady said, was making sure he could play Tuesday.
"That was the first thing he told the doctor that he had a game Tuesday and wanted to play," Brady said. "I just thank God it was nothing more serious."
Davis' accident was one more event in a trying week for Brady.
He and his family spent most of Sunday in McComb, Miss., to visit Brady's mother.
Marilyn Brady, 79, is scheduled to undergo open-heart surgery Tuesday morning. She collapsed on Christmas Eve and was diagnosed with problems serious enough to require triple- or quadruple-bypass surgery.
