Northrop Grumman will hold on to a Navy unmanned spy plane order valued at as much as $3.74 billion after a protest by losing bidder Lockheed Martin was rejected.
Lockheed of Bethesda was notified that its protest was denied on Friday, and the decision is still "protected," meaning no further information is available, a Government Accountability Office official said. A redacted version of the GAO decision may be made public next week, she said.
Northrop's Global Hawk drone beat Lockheed and Boeing for the Navy award. The order is for as many as 68 planes with an initial value of $1.16 billion for development through 2014.
