"You Lie" Aftermath

Dear MMARSH, John Kerry got swift boated? What John Kerry Did was get 3 purple hearts for less than band aid wounds so he could get sent home, John kerry also put himself up for the Silver Star. As though that were not Enough he called me and all of my vietnam brothers war criminals, he also was A friend of Jane Fonda. Also If you are a fan of obama, have you ever given any critical thought to the socialist direction he is leading our country? You must wear a tin foil hat.

He went into younder village and never returned

I am sorry did you serve with him? How the hell would you know what he earned and didnt earn unless you were actually there, in his boat, on the day in question. If you cannot do that then you have absolute no right to criticize his record, just like nobody would be right to question yours. I dont think you'd like it at all if people you never met passed lies about your service record. I loved how all the swift-boaters became experts on John Kerry, figuring that not a single one of them actually served with the man.

And please tell me why socialism is so bad, do you actually know what it is? Most people I talked to have absolutely no clue. Have you ever lived in a socialist country? I spent tweleve years living in one, I think I am abit more qualified on this then you are. I would much rather have a socialist president than the absolute disaster that we had in the last president.

Take President Obama for what he's worth but so far he's walking the middle line. I realize that the folks who work for him are not so middle of the road. Does that concern me? Yes it does. But they're not the President and so far it looks like if there's a change in President, they too will be out of power soon enough.
For all the noise that the Republican party is making, it doesn't seem to really provide for an alternative solution to anything.

Don't know so much about the Kerry stuff but I find it odd that no one who served with him came forward to speak against him.

John Kerry said his Vietnam expierience made him qualified to be President, then refused to release his records.

Looks like this guy is getting quite a lot of flack for his outburst... What do you all think of it? I know that one of the general agreements on this forum (for the most part) is that you should respect the office no matter what... Does that apply here? Or do yall think he was within his right of free speech?

in my country that sought of thing is to an extent expected as is it is in many other country's but this did not happen in my country or one of those other ones...
but maybe instant feed back may be beneficial even if it makes the person who interrupts look like an idiot

And I thought it was considered rude to bash someone's military record. Apparently that's only with certain folks.

On the note of the topic at hand, though, the reactions have been pretty much as expected.

I wasn't old enough for Nam, but I did every single little "mini war" from 80-99 including, but not limited to, Central America, Desert Storm, the Balkans, ( Bosnia and so forth) Kerry held nothing for me either. As far as I'm concerned, he disrespect vets. anybody who went to Nam is NOT a war criminal, their are Honored Veterans in my house. Just like every other vet is, but thats just me.

John.Kerrys record as a Naval Officer in RVN is not the issue here. It has no bearing on the topic.

OTOH.........Read today that Jimmy Carter has.opined that Wilson's comment was race based.......so.......

I'm honestly not surprised that Carter would open such a statement. I mean, people remember the Civil War, no matter how long ago it was (Carter was in high school I think :D), and they know South Carolina was a Confederate state. Thus, when a senator from that state says something about an African American president, regardless of what happened, people are going to put two and two together, and the connection of racial tension will be brought up. Even if they're completely wrong, it's what they're thinking.

A perfect remedy for all these problems? Don't shout down the president in the first place.

What Wilson did lacked tact, broke decorum and was out and out assinine no doubt.

But IMO this breaking out in the same old tired party against party blanket free for all BS.

If the jackasses on both sides of the aisle would practice bipartisan politics and leave off with the same old rhetoric they might actually get something done. That would be novel. But no bipartisanship is given lip service by all of them.

It's so broken right now it really doesn't matter all of the pols are piping the party line of whatever party. Just more posturing jackassery and they screw us in the process.

Yup, one side always asking the other to reach across the aisle while doing no reaching themselves.

Well, the Republicans made no attempt at bipartisanship when they were in charge, and because of they obstruction they have shown to hijack the healthcare debate I think its going to be less likely the Democrats are going to extend their hand across the asile for the forseeable future. So what will happen is that the Democrats are simply going to ram legislation through without bipartisanship.

Might even be a good thing.

Its exactly what Bush did with his Tax Cuts. The risk is the Democrats had better be sure they have a good bill because if its a clustf*** like the taxcuts were, then they are going to pay a heavy price next election.

Personally I dont like the Obama plan, its a start but I dont think it goes anywhere as far as it needs to go. If living in Europe has taught me anything is that a single-payer healthcare system is the only way to go.

It's going to be a learning process and it'll take a few years for the system to get ironed out but it's a start.
Again, I think that disempowering the insurance companies would be a massive start all to itself because it allows for further development of the health coverage system.

It seems to me that the Dems run a big risk of alienating a big chunk of the American public that is either apolitical or at least nonpartisan if they are seen as ramming anything through without regard to public opinion. The only way they are going to have any hope of retaining their power base is to at least give the illusion of bipartisanship (or the attempt at bipartisanship). I'm sure they're aware of this which is the only reason this issue is even being discussed at all. The debate will make no real difference as to whether or not this thing goes through.

In the short term yes. However the American Public has a very short term attention span. Trust me, the moment "American Idol" is on TV all will be forgotten. Its a sad commentary of our time. An example of this would be the 2001+2003 Bush Tax Cuts. Bush rammed them through via the reconciliation process and by the next election all was forgotten by the public.

I agree about the illusion of bipartisanship, Obama shouldn't bother its a waste of time. He should pass his agenda the way he wants it and let him be judged on the consequences of his decision, be they positive or negative. I think he is only angering everybody Left and Right by his ability to negociate and compromise on EVERY Point. A leader leads the way he doesnt negociate it. Obama needs to remember that HE is the boss, not the Glen Becks or the far left.

Obama needs to remember that he works for the American people. I believe that the voting public will not forget what is done today. Whether they like the "reforms" or not, they will remember. The 2012 election will reflect the degree of satisfaction or dissatisfaction with the current tactics and methods. If everything doesn't turn out all rainbows and roses, the Dems will pay the piper when it's all said and done. Of this there is no doubt.
