Is there a drill method in US Army/USMC for soldiers called `to dig a trench from this tree till afternoon`? In Soviet Army was.

No. It but it sounds alot like the "Move the dirt from this hole to that hole" routine. Bad thing is you had to dig both holes first.

Basically dig the trench in the line of the shadow towards the tree until you reached the tree or there was no more shadow?
