It could be that there was some children there who had politcally active parents, but most of them were just normal kids with a certain interest for politics, or had friends with the same interest.
Definately not a politically strategic target.

A name and a picture just appeared through unofficial channels, but until it has been confirmed by the police I choose to leave that matter alone.

News have already claimed that the suspect had "nationalist" and "anti-islamic" interests.
No military training except from the standard training as a private conscript.
Has a registered company in the agricultural trade, which could give him access to fertilizers of the kind found in most recipes for "anfo-type" homemade explosives.

And it seems he was a loner after all.

This guy may very well have been quite confused, but not that confused.
That summer camp is well known in Norway, and the strategic importance of it is next to none, other than the devastating effect of going on a shoting spree in any summer-camp.

Could be compared to a scout-camp, and who would think about that as a target?

Much earlier yesterday, news reports had it that claim had been made by a known group in Norway, with a name which included the final word 'Jihadist' or 'Jihadists'.

I did expect the number of casualties on the island of the youth camp to rise, but this is unbelievable.
The last count this morning is 91, including the 7 dead after the bomb blast in Oslo, that makes 84 dead kids on that island.

Pretty hard to imagine that this is the work of a loner with twisted political wiews.

But still, it seems like he was a lone, and acted out of some radical nationalist idea.

I consider myself a cynic, but still I feel sick to my stommach, and a depressive mood that fits well to the heavy grey clouds outside here.

Maybe I should explain this a little closer, the island upon wich this tragic event took place is a camp site used by the Labour Party youth organization for their annual summer camp.
The youth gathered there are "delegates" from all over the country, and while Norway only have a population of about 4 900 000 citizens, almost everyone in the country know someone who has been directly affected by this tragic massacre.

The actual body-count (91 people so far) may appear small compared to the 911 attack on the Twin-Towers in New York, but for a little country like Norway, with such a small population, this is a devastating blow.

So far 84 kids in the age of 13-22 years of age are reported dead on the island, and I'm convinced that most of the Norwegian population have the same numb feeling of deep sorrow as I feel personally.

In the midst of this, I must thank you all for your compassion and sympathies.

91 killed, 84 of them children / youths and there are still several more missing so the number may rise even more...... this is so unreal.....

1. This is a national tragedy for Norway, a peace loving nation with whom no one seems to have any issues. We so far away can only condole.

2. Something I note and must share. About a month or two back, Western media / security services would have rushed to lay blame on Islamic terrorists. This is absent here. Are we seeing a paradigm shift in West's policy towards the Muslims?
