Kidnapped Iraq election candidate freed

BAGHDAD, Nov 19 (AFP) - A candidate in Iraq's December 15 general elections,
who was kidnapped from his home Thursday evening, has been freed, an
interior ministry source said Saturday.

Tawfic al-Yasseri, was abducted in the Yarmuk neighbourhood in the west of
the capital.

The source said he had returned to his home Saturday, but gave no details on
the circumstances of his release or the identity of his kidnappers.

A Shiite Muslim and former admiral in the Iraqi navy, Yasseri is a candidate
of the Sun of Iraq list and is known for his commitment to nationalist and
non-sectarian politics.
