Kazakhstan: Passage For French Forces In Afghan War

President Nicolas Sarkozy of France signed an agreement with Kazakhstan on Tuesday allowing French military personnel and equipment to pass through Kazakh territory on the way to Afghanistan. The countries also signed an energy deal, worth an estimated $1.46 billion, to formalize the acquisition by the French companies Total and GDF Suez of a 25 percent stake in the Khvalynskoye offshore natural gas field project in the Caspian Sea.
