Justice for Gurkhas!

Nobody "hijacked" the thread Delboy, you asked questions of me, I merely answered them,.... and I answered them in a civil manner.

But it has become a discussion about this woman in Australia and yourself, and not about Gurkhas.

And contrary to your statement above, I have not asked you any questions at all.

I have simply been trying to reassure you regarding British attitudes, to no avail as it happens.

You did make a statement professing your ignorance of my proposition. You seem to base your answer on the idea that because you are not aware of it, it is therefore not true. Am I not allowed to answer it? Or would it just be more convenient for you that I not answer.

Well - In all honesty, I have never heard the word 'colonials' used by Brits to describe Commonwealth partners, so that must have died in days before my understanding. On the other hand I have heard it used, and used it myself, to accurately decribe colonial antique furniture etc.

To refer to people, the parlance has always been Aussies, Kiwis,Gurkhas etc.etc.
I think 'colonial' went out with the tea-planters. I don't think we have any out-dated hang-ups of this kind.

I agree that the Gurkhas got a bad deal, no argument. Have you done anything about this other than point out it's unfairness on this forum.

I agree the guy deserves far better than this but the first question that sprung to mind is what are the people and opposition parties doing about it, I don't believe people should complain about things they themselves are not prepared make a stand over.

I am certain that in the end the government will do what will guarantee them the most votes.

Well, if the Gurkhas want a home then I hope, wish, and pray that the USA would give them a home.

Sucks that this is happening. It's truly a shame....

Well I still say the Gurkha is getting a raw deal. And whoever made the decision should be ashamed of themself.

Exactly. And thank you for those who have joined us in our support of these heroes. It is of course, typical behaviour of our socialist government towards the military. Currently Gurhkas pre 1997 are affected by this attitude. 50 of them have handed back their medals. However, it is being made clear to the Prime Minister that this situation is not acceptable. The English press and people are making their feelings known. Among current suggestions by the public is one that the Gurkhas and Gurkha vets should be employed permanently as a force to protect our borders and another that we should keep the Gurkhas and deport the Government.

Following MontyB's comments I challenge him to tell us in detail exactly what he considers should be done by the man in the street in Britain to deal with the Gurkhas' predicament. Obviously he has some magic formula for dealing with governments and I would like to hear it. I just hope he is not going to come up with the old chestnut of votes at the ballot-box, which in our case come up at 5 year intervals and when calls for referenda on important issues have been dismissed out of hand. I am sure he will be delighted at my invitation to give us the benefit of his great wisdom on this subject.

(As for senojekips; please stop talking about yourself and making excuses for hijacking this thread. I am not interested.Talk about our fabulous Gurkhas. I stand by my statement already quoted by you in your last post and I have asked you no questions as you claimed. I cannot speak for the situation in Australia, but I can speak for attitudes here in England.Your responses were not an 'inconvenience' to me as you suggest - but an irrelevance on this thread, which I am sure you know.)

I don't think the USA is going to give anyone a home. Except if they were illegal and dirt poor.

Yes but first I have to wade through your snide, sarcastic post to find a question...

However on to matters at hand, rather than respond to your "questions" I have done a little research and found that not all British citizens spend their days sitting here blaming the "socialist government" some are in fact trying to do something about this issue.
Now rather than posting masses of data and getting into a fight over something we actually agree on I intend to help your cause by doing what you should have done.

For what its worth I would suggest people check out this site and see what can be done.

DelBoy, maybe a letter to your local member of Parliament might be good start, better still go and see him/her.

Have you tried to find out if there are any support groups, and if so offered your assistance or maybe a donation to help defray possible costs? There's a lot you could be doing rather than throwing your hands in the air and picking needless arguments with supporters on here.

Hey, what the hell do you 2 guys think we are doing here, twiddling our thumbs? Is that the best you can offer, is that the best kick-ass you have after all the b/s about getting things done? I am not unknown for speaking up, let me assure you and why you should condescend to assume otherwise I am at a loss to understand. Who are ya?

The Brits are doing all this and more, and working through the newspapers, all interested parties use the petition, for what good it does. My high flying Member of Parliament knows exactly how we feel on this and other issues. And you don't have the right to lecture Brits about donations, we are the most involved and charitable people on earth, bar none, and The Gurkhas know that and they know us. So why should you 2 question my right to post the subject here ? You have a damned patronising cheek.

And our present government has now reached its lowest support figures.

So MontyB, before accusing me of snide, understand that I meant what I said , it was not sarcasm; show us the magic formula you constantly conjure up with your demands 'what are you doing about it'. If you can't respond to the challenge, just get off the pot and do not use that ploy again; you have already over-used it on other threads.

And senojekips has simply used this serious thread to try to beat the British over the head with his toffee- nosed woman problem. I suggest he takes his own advice - 'get over it and stop whinging' - particularly on this thread.

And don't try to create the impression that there is something not legit in my posting this subject here - it's called news, and interesting military news at that. This is another habit you should both try to grow out of.

You have sorely tried my patience on this one.

The query related to you, not "The Brits" or the Royal "We". What was suggested was "what have YOU been doing about it"

You've got a real hangup about my answers haven't you. You should read what you are saying here and maybe you'll realise why these questions are asked. You have been bleating about this problem for several days, but not said a single word about what you personally have been doing about it.

No one here has disagreed with your original premise.

No one has suggested anything about your post not being legitimate. So stop trying for the sympathy vote.

This is nonsense and you know it, you were referring constantly to the Brit attitudes re colonialism, despite my efforts to reassure you. Don't bother denying it - it is there in black and white.

And who do you think you are to demand to know what I am doing about it . That is not your prerogative and also is none of your damn business and has NOTHING to do with the plight of tha Gurkhas. And you are still trying to somehow bring me into disrepute even though you have seen my last post. I have not been bleating at all. I have been too busy trying to dry your tears over the alleged insult from this alleged ex- Brit high faluting woman who has allegedly cut you to the quick. There is the 'sympathy' vote and that is what I find unacceptable about your answers. For myself, I seek no vote at all as it happens. But I know someone who does!

Disgusting!

If that stuff is all you have to offer than please remain silent. Your usual attempted character assassination is not worthy of Milforum in my opinion.

No it's not nonsense, I referred to what I know to be true. If you are disgusted by it all I can say is that you are not on your own.

You pursue scarcely disguised personal agendas at the wrong time and in the wrong place. I am always happy to respond to them elsewhere.

I could see where you were headed very early in the piece, you were spoiling for a disagreement, and so my Post 11 stated unequivocally that I was not having a shot at you or anyone else, and I merely posted the clarification for my previous statement. All of which was taken by you as some sort of personal attack. We all have personal agendas, but mine are far removed from this forum, to me this forum is my enjoyment and entertainment. If I want a fight, I only have to walk to the nearest pub and there are any amount of rough heads that would gladly wipe the floor with me.

You may not have enjoyed what I said, just as I am not in agreement with all posts here, but that is no reason why I should not tell the truth as I see it. There have been several threads here in recent times worthy of my scorn, however I would rather let them slide as the effort in replying to them would be wasted.

I work on the premise that one should never try to educate (or debate with) an idiot, as they will merely drag you down to their level, then beat you with their previous experience.

Right - you've had your say - I've had mine. Can we now leave this thread for discussion of The Gurkhas?

Topic reminder:
Justice for Gurkhas!

Please stay on topic in here from now on gentlemen, but feel free to start a new new thread to continue your "discussion"..
Thanks.

Thank you senojekips. Thank you Redleg.

Here we go then:-

"GYANENDRA RAI'S Falklands exprerience (Mail) brought back memeories for me. When he was wounded, I was crouching in the dirt 50 yards away, my platoon receiving similar attention from the same Argentine artillery observation officer from his post on Mount Harriet, directing his guns' fire onto our positions on Wether Ground near Bluff Cove.

I remember the moment Gyanendra was hit, the horrifying scream of the incoming shell, followed by the deafening blast and ping of shell splinters.

I have my own souvenir, like the one he is holding in the photograph. It was still fizzing at at first, too hot to handle, with razor sharp edges. Mine stuck in the dirt beside me - Gyanendra's was inside him. That one shell wounded four Gurkhas.

There was a moment's silence before the moans and soft cries of 'Lagyo'- I'm hit. There was no panic, barely any alarm, just the disciplined, businesslike procedure of dealing with the casualties, orchestrated by Gyanendra's superb company commander. As ever, our medics excelled.

Now, barely a week goes by when we don't hear of our Gurkha successors involved in some action or other in Iraq or Afghanistan. Prince Harry enjoyed Christmas in the safe- keeping of their wonderful company.

At a Falklands reunion in London last summer, I met numerous UK-domiciled Gurkhas, most working in security posts at Heathrow and Canary Wharf. All were immaculately turned out, and , frankly, put us Brits to shame.

I'm ashamed to read of Gyanendra's plight and those who, like him, are excluded from the UK after all they've done for us. While British units struggle to find enough recruits, Gurkha units turn away countless young men eager to sign up and swear the oath of allegiance to the Queen."
