I currently live in the UK, but hold a German Passport (not German though).
I am almost finished with University (BEng EEE&N) (I.e. Electrical and electronic Engineering with Nano Technology)
I speak 3 languages (English, German, Russian ~ all fluent apart from Russian, but give me 2 weeks in Russia and that’s sorted)
(enrolled on a minor Spanish course that will I will attend after the new year, so hopefully 4 by the end of 2014)
Once i am done with University, i do not want to waste my live away at some desk job or as a lab rat.
(Not yet anyway, once i am in my 40s sure, but for now, no way.)
I want to do something with my life that i can look back on, and be proud of what i have done/achieved during my youth; sitting at a desk is not one of them. (Yet)
There are plenty of alternatives to the military, but hell, everyday i wake up, I am wasting time, i could be making a difference somewhere, somewhere where it actually matters. (Where it matters to me, for the most part anyway).
Something that is hard to describe, drives me towards the military.
I have done my research (to a certain extent), and the USMC seems to be a place that would suit me.
I am not saying that’s where I will meet likeminded people, because that’s b******t, many people join for their own reasons, may it be a green card, or whatever.
I join to become a Marine. Don’t give a **** about a green card, pension or whatever, while I am enlisted, all that **** might as well be on a different world.
Now don't get me wrong, I know it will be tough and i am looking forward to it, i see it as a challenge that i can meet, and keep growing, beyond what is expected.
Now i have my own reasons for not wanting to join the British Military, and don’t ask why, all you will get is a **** you don't ask type of reply, so save yourself time and don’t bother.
Now onto my Questions.
1) Knowing a bit about my background, realistically speaking, what are my chances getting into the USMC?
2) Since I will hold a degree, can I join Officer School? Since I am not American, personally I don’t think I will meet the security clearance, or that doesn’t matter, and I simply won’t get promoted past a certain rank indefinitely. Please elaborate on this if you can (stating sources) if I am able to join as an Officer etc.
3) If the answer to No. 2 is NO, I think when I fill in my application, I can tick a box called “G40” or something like that, that basically means when I finish boot, I start off with better pay and rank than the average grunt due to my degree. (I think u can only tick the G4 or G40 box if you have a degree) Is this correct information?
4) Specialisation Question:
If I have to join as a grunt (private), can a non-American still go for recon try outs?
What if I do get the chance to join officer school, can I join recon as an officer or what is the procedure here?
Also, since I don’t have a residency in the US, no green card, no nothing, what’s the quickest way of meeting all minimum requirements in order to join the USMC?
As you can see it is quite complicated but I hope some of you here can share your knowledge and perhaps help me out.
