Run five times a week, start off with a mile a day, sometimes two miles, gradually increase the milage, you got to push your self. A healthy diet really helps. Go to the gym to bulk up a little. swimming is super great, its works all your muscles. But really, just eat right, no crappy McDonalds or KFC.
 
Yup- I'm a weight lifter (112 pounds, bench press max of around 140). I've never had the weight problem, but I do a good bit of cardiovascular (running, swimming, etc) and started the weight training to lose the "nerdy corpse" look. I'm still 4.5% body fat, but much happier for the change.

The real important thing is the diet. Eat well, and maintain a decent amount of activity. Lots of vegetables and fruits, with a good amount of meats. Or just go hunting- the pounds peel away like magic.
 
One of the best things you can do is join a Gym and get some proper advice on how to lose the weight and get fit with damaging yourself.
