Topic: Joining the German Army as a foreigner

Hello! I recently discovered this website, and decided to sign up. I have a question that has been bugging me for quite a long time, and i am hoping that maybe someone could help me out.

I am 17 years old, i live in Lithuania, currently i'm still going to school. I have been to Germany many times, and it is a wonderful country, one that i would really want to someday live in. My German is not the best right now, but i am learning it both in school and at home.

My main question is, can i join the German Army as a foreigner?

I searched the internet for an answer, but could not find anything conclusive, so i am wondering, if i would move to Germany and become a German Citizen, would i be able to apply for the army?

My other question is, assuming that i can join the German army as a foreigner, could i join the German army as a foreigner after serving multiple years in the Lithuanian Military?

Hope that somebody can answer my questions, thanks in advance!

My understanding is that currently, only German citizens can join the Bundeswehr however, there is a security policy paper being drafted to allow EU citizens to join.

You probably have a better chance of joining if you do serve in the Lithuanian military as Germany has from time to time allowed foreigners to fill specialist positions.

Thanks for your answer, i always thought for some reason that if i would for example join the Lithuanian military, and after i get discharged, other countries would not accept me into their armies. I'l do some research on the policy paper you mentioned

Topic: Female considering joining the German army

Hello, I recently started thinking about joining the German army. I am a female, I am European, currently learning German and living in Germany. I can’t find no information on what is like to be female in the army, what are the possibilities, requirements, duties, specified jobs and what should I expect if i join. Can anyone help me with these questions?

My very rudimentary understanding of the rules is that to join the Bundeswehr you need to be a German citizen or fall into the classifications defined by article 116 of the German constitution.

They have talked about allowing foreign recruits but my understanding that is mainly aimed at EU citizens or persons that have specific skills they are short of.
