Jason Bourne vs James Bond?

Now, this should be interesting. :smil:

Did you guys watch the latest 007 Quantum of Solace? What did you think? I think the 007 series have improved significantly story-wise and now fellow agents seem to rely on improvisation rather than all those fancy (read crappy) gadgets. I previously had my doubts but after this second movie with him, I think Daniel Craig's created a great new Bond image.

Of course, that doesn't mean he can beat my all-times-favorite action thriller/espionage movie hero Jason Bourne - played by Matt Damon. Who pretty much kicks ass and takes names even though he's been suffering from amnesia and hunted by assasins of both CIA and KGB/FSB. The first movie got a permanent place in my Top 10 Favorite Films, and the following two were increasingly great, with last one "The Bourne Ultimatum" raising the bar to a whole new level. A 4th movie's been announced, but is as of yet untitled...

And the debate of the century... Who would win in a James Bond vs Jason Bourne, super-spy versus super-spy engagement?

Jason Bourne would kick his ass.
First off, that's not the sort of character James Bond was supposed to be and the new guy just doesn't convince me as being James Bond. Pierce Brosnan probably pulled it off best. Some people say Sean Connery but although he may have had the voice in terms of appearance he didn't quite strike me as a playboy type, which Bond is supposed to be.

LOL, yeah. Well, I don't know if other fans of the series will agree with me but in fact I think I like a more down-to-earth sort of Bond better, than the playboy one. Often leads to making things a bit more "realistic" and appealing to us mere mortal earthlings. :smil:

I loved Bourne's character better, even though he was more "cold" compared to Bond. He doesn't interact and manipulate people the way Bond does, not as "social" as him. Yet, audiences tend to like Bourne better because we see ourselves in him. The guy doesn't even have a sports car for god's sakes, lol. He just improvises like a lunatic and the movies keep you on your toes trying to guess what's going to happen 5 minutes later. Full of twists and turns. Whereas Bond's movies are often pretty linear and predictable with a bunch of good looking people and expensive gadgets. Like in Casino Royale, everyone knew that the girl was going to screw him over. But in Bourne Supremacy, when Marie got shot, I was like WTF!!!$!$%^$%^ that sucks.

I hope he and Nicky will get together in the 4th movie.

Yeah the improvisation in Jason Bourne's operatoins always intrigues me. Most of it's plain bullsh1t though!

But the real question is.
Between James Bond, Jason Bourne and Jack Bauer, why do their initials have to be "JB?"

The real question is who between James Bond and Jason Bourne is a more real believable character in today's world.

James Bond a suave sophisticated guy having up to date information on his adversaries. Working for a British Spy service with an unlimited budget to buy expensive cars, high stake gambling, and ultra sophisticated weapons.

Jason Bourne an American assassin who has no clue(who he works for) or intelligence to determine who is the real villain (think WMD). Funds derived from US government source unknown (think $200.00 hammers). Goes around eliminating people indiscriminately.

Jason Bourne, hands down, no question.

JASON BOURNE i luv the series he would kik bonds ass from here to ugana woop woop bond relies on wepaons to much :sniper:Bourne gets up in ur face :box:

Well... James Bond series look like fairy tale about secret service agent. He is always in perfect suit, driving expensive and prestige cars, always hanging around in casinos and with beautiful women... He always use his only real name and often gets caught by excentric villains (who often lives in excentric buildings), who are stupid enough to not to kill him, but tell him all of their plans instead.

Bond series are totally incredible.

What comes to Jason Bourne - he looks like a simple guy, who easily can disappear in crowd (mandatory skill of secret agent). His strength is his skills and ability to plan sophisticated tactical solutions (remind please, what skills did Bond have? Ok, he was good at shooting with his Walther PPK and could drive various means of transportation, and in the latest movies Daniel Craig shows that he can fight quite good, but it seems to be all).

I am not sure about the overall storylines, but actions of Jason Bourne are more credible behaviour of secret agent than actions of James Bond. And that's why Jason Bourne is more interesting - if I want to watch fairy tale movies, I will prefer Star Wars or Harry Potter movies, not James Bond...

Bond would win. Bourne deserves to win, as he is the superior agent, but his plot armor isn't as strong. Remember the part in Goldeneye where Bond escapes the archive with the girl? There were about nine Russian soldiers firing AK-47s at him on full auto from about 15 feet. The bullets made a neat pattern around him as Bond has divine protection, evident in every movie about him. Combine that with an unlimited budget and physics-defying gadgetry and it's clear that Bourne sadly has no chance.

In today's economy I don't see James Bond as being realistic. While Britain may have the Scientific minds to supply Bond his gadgets, with the current economic crises and budget cuts all over I don't think they can supply them.

Bourne as a out of control American spy seems infinitely more believable, at least until President Obama is able to reign in the CIA and make them more politically responsible arming them with flowers and goodwill towards all.:-D

But back in the older days, the storyline was kind of repetitive.

Well, at least for who the bad guys were..

always the Russians. Couldnt it be Polish or Austrian?

There is no problem in gadgets or in capacity (or absence of it due to economic crisis) of British Secret Service to produce such. There is problem of Bond's behavior. He does not know anything of secrecy or under-cover work. He ALWAYS use his only and real identity. Even before age of computers he could be easily traced - and that's not the way secret agents are acting!

That's why Bond is totally incredible - he is hero of fairy tale...

Question....how did we go from Bond/Bourne to economics....:cen: economics and politics, this is a one vs one question.... easy answer too as most of you would agree and heres why Bourne would win...
1) Bourne acts on intuition, and quick reactions with a lack of equiptment...
2) Bournes hand to hand combat skills will always be supirior to Bonds
3)Bourne's "agent" skills to dissappear are far more supirior to Bonds
4) Bond always has an obsticle to overcome with British intelligence, even though he can still go where ever he pleases, he still has eyes on him, Bourne is always on the run with "eyes" trying to find him...
5) lastly, Bond knows who his enemies are...Bourne needs to find out who's against him and take em out:box:

To conclude, Bourne would pwn Bond!!! hands down.

Cant make a good comparision between Bond and Bourne. Bond is a more fantasy oriented character while Bourne is supoused to be a more realistic one.

Nonetheless, BOURNE would kick James BUTT!!! ;)
Why?
Because Bourne was brain washed to be a perfect killer while Bond can be distracted by a good pair of TITS.
Ask Pamela Landy who she thinks would win :)

Best Regards

While he's not part of any series I think a third contender for this could be Bryan Mills, the character Liam Neeson played in Taken. He's like Bourne but better, but that's just my opinion.

I want to see Daniel Craig in a couple more Bond movies before deciding for sure. In the past Bond was far more fanciful than the last two movies and that sort of leaves a sour taste in my mouth. That having been said, the new Bond is, in my opinion, far more realistic and toned back than the past Bonds and Daniel Craig is one BAMF in Quantum of Solace, plus I loved what resource Greene chose to try and control because in my political science classes we spend as much time discussing water as we do oil.

Jason Bourne versus Daniel Craig is a draw for me. Jason Bourne versus all other Bonds is a hands down win for Bourne. Jack Bauer lasts 3 seconds in a three way batte royale because he takes the honorable way out and puts the barrle of the gun in his mouth rather than succomb to the whoopin he's about to endure.

Good news for Bourne fans. Apparently there'll be a 4th Bourne movie, set for 2011. :D

As of now, it doesn't have a title, listed on IMDb as "Untitled Jason Bourne Project" and as "announced". So, it's most probably true.

See: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000354/

The Ultimatum had ended perfectly. I don't know how they'll end this new movie without messing up the storyline and annoying the hell out of a very large fan base.
