This covers the usual spiel and is to be expected, what I didn't realise is that China has such a small submarine fleet - according to JFS.

Logically it makes a lot of sense, why does Japan need so many MBT? Also their forces are not situated to best deal with the ongoing and ever burgeoning threat of N Korea - I guess that this serves as a message to all that Japan has skin in the game - question is are they going to do anything more?

This link adds a bit more context.

My big question is what would Japan do if it really felt threatened by N Korea - another invasion of the peninsula - unlikely, but would they start to consider themselves more of an offensive Armed Force?

Let me just reply with this for now. Japan, from what I have personaly seen, is not even fit to defend itself from a small rebellion. Let alone become an invading force. It's "military" is too small. It would have to use its support and to be honest their units are too focused on desert warfare training too shift fronts so drasticaly.

So not only is an invasion of the peninsula unlikely but its not going to happen. But I personaly don't believe that N Korea is a threat to Japan, I'm more worried about our support with S Korea if war were to break out. Being in a deployable unit in Okinawa, I know that if orders were sent down, our unit is the closest along with the few infantry units stationed here as well.
