The police in Hiroshima are investigating four United States marines from the nearby Iwakuni Air Station on suspicion of raping a 19-year-old woman, officials said. The station’s press office told The Yomiuri Shimbun that the station was holding the four in connection with the police investigation and that it was fully cooperating. The woman told the police that she had met the men at a restaurant or bar in Hiroshima and that they drove her to a parking lot about a mile away and raped her. “It would be unforgivable if this turns out to be true,” Nobutaka Machimura, the chief cabinet secretary in the government of Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda, said at a news conference.
