I came across a story about a Norwegian resistance soldier, Jan Baalsrud, trained by the British. (SOE, Commando)

He participated in an operation to support the Norse resistance in northern Norway. The Germans detected them and killed or captured all the members of the group, but not Jan Baalsrud. His escape and the help he received from the Norwegians is amazing. He was wounded, trapped in a blizzard, getting snow blind, hit by an avalanche, attracting gangrene in his foot. That forced Jan Baalsrud to amputate the toes with his knife. The local Norse helped him a lot in his attempt to escape to Sweden. He survived it all and reached Sweden with the help from two Sami brothers.

I guess RedLeg knows much more about him than I do.

There's an old but still quite good movie about Jan Baalsrud from 1957 called Nine lives/Ni liv, if you're interested to learn more about him and his incredible escape from the Nazis.
