April 27, 2008 JERUSALEM (AP) -- Defense Minister Ehud Barak is delaying a visit to Washington, an Israeli official said Sunday.
Barak had been scheduled to leave Sunday for talks with U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney and Secretary of Defense Robert Gates. But a Defense Ministry official says the trip has been postponed until further notice.
Barak's office had no immediate comment.
The Israeli daily Haaretz says Barak delayed the trip to deter speculation that it was linked to the last week's U.S. announcement about a recent Israeli airstrike in Syria.
U.S. intelligence officials said Syria was building a nuclear reactor with North Korean assistance before the facility was bombed by Israel last September.
