AP - Israel officially approved the construction of hundreds of new homes in the West Bank, the Defense Ministry said Monday, deepening an already unprecedented rift with the U.S. over Israeli settlement expansion.

So much for Israel's avowed declaration that they are trying to achieve a peaceful solution with the Palestinian people.

It also gives a very good indication of contempt that Israel actually has for the US, especially now that they are a recognised nuclear power.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. It is my considered belief that Israel will be the catalyst in the next "Major" protracted US war in the middle east, (a la Vietnam)... I guess that it already is, as, if it were not for Israel 99% of the troubles in the ME would not exist (for the coalition anyway)
