IRIAF F-14A

i think there are a few f-14 planes still in service due to the lace of alternative parts and no improvements have been made since 1980.

In January 2007, it was announced by the US Department of Defense that sales of spare parts for F-14s would be suspended, due to concerns that they could end up in Iran. It announced that the decision was taken "given the current situation in Iran".http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F-14_Tomcat#cite_note-44 On 2 July 2007, the remaining American F-14s were being shredded to ensure that F-14 spare parts would not be acquired by governments considered hostile to the US.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F-14_Tomcat#cite_note-shred-43 Iran had an estimated 44 F-14s,http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F-14_Tomcat#cite_note-Combat_Aircraft-45 with some 20 operational by 2009, from the original 80 that were delivered.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F-14_Tomcat#cite_note-2009_Aero_Source-46

One thing that bothers me is America's arrogance!! After WW-2, American scientist felt it would take the Soviet Union 'at least' twenty years to develop a nuclear weapon, it took five years! The USAF said it would take at least twenty years for the next country to develop a counter to the F-22A. We now see the Russian AF test flying the T-50! SUCH ARROGANCE, to think American technology is so advanced that other countries are decades behind the USA.
Now, the F-14A was designed in the late 1960s and manufactured in the early 1970s with at that time, advanced technology. What makes the USA think that technology of America then was thirty-four years plus ahead of Iran's technology? Iran has had in its possession, seventy-nine F-14As since the mid-1970s, what makes the USA think there is something about technology that old, that Iran can not duplicate it? In the 1980s, Iran worked with the Soviet AF dealing with the technology of the F-14!
The USA is worried about Iran making nuclear weapons but, if they can't duplicate technology thirty-four years later, if Iran can not make systems equal to old American designs... how advanced are they? Which is it.... is Iran technically backward and can't reverse engineer old F-14 systems and sub-systems or, is it capable of designing a nuclear weapon? It is a very binary situation.
