BAGHDAD, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- Iraqi detainees in US-run detentions and
Iraqi prisons began voting on the draft constitution on Thursday, two days
before a referendum, an Electoral Commission official said.
"I confirm that the detainees have started casting votes on the draft
constitution this morning," Farid Ayar, a senior official of the independent
Electoral Commission of Iraq, told Xinhua.
About 10,000 Iraqi detainees in US-run Bucca and Abu Ghraib detentions
and Iraqi prisons started voting, he said.
More than 15.5 million Iraqis registered to participate in the Saturday
referendum.
