BAGHDAD, Oct 17 (AFP) - Iraq's independent electoral commission said Monday
it was verifying the ballot count from the country's constitutional
referendum and would have to delay the announcement of a final result.

"The commission board announces that despite its intention to announce
global preliminary results as soon as possible it needs several more days to
complete this difficult and complex operation after finding that the results
from most provinces were too high," the Independent Electoral Commission of
Iraq said in a statement, apparently referring to turnout levels.
