Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi met with his Chinese counterpart, Cui Tiankai, here on Wednesday and disccused issues of regional and international concern. They also discussed recent developments in Lebanon, including UN Resolution 1701, which ended the Israeli-brokered war in Lebanon.
Tiankai, who is currently visiting Iran, expressed regret over the delay of the UN Security Council in taking action to end the war which could have resulted in less casualties.
He hoped Iran and China would agree to cooperate in restoring peace and stability to the Middle East, to Lebanon in particular.
The two sides further conferred on latest developments in the West's nuclear standoff with Iran on its nuclear program and vowed to pursue cooperation in this regard.
